Meet Our Supervisors
Maria Laquerre LMFT, RPTS
Maria utilizes the Systems/ Dialectical Model of Supervision (SDMS). SDMS considers aspects of the supervisor-trainee relationship as well as assessing and addressing the developmental level of a supervisee. She believe that how a supervisor responds to a supervisee will transfer into the therapy room and affect how they responds to their own clients. SDMS provides that supervisors and trainees are individual biological systems that are influenced by their biological and social factors, again viewing the individual within a systems concept and being mindful of how that affects their engagement in supervision.
Maria is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Maria chose to complete these additional certifications to further her own skills and she believes that ongoing education and training is vital to all aspects of her profession. “Supervision with A New Hope has been without a doubt one of the most supportive experiences I have received as a budding therapist in the field of mental health. As a therapist with A New Hope Therapy Center, our fearless leader and owner Maria Laquerre-Diego has incorporated supervision as a benefit of our employment into our contracts as we work towards independent licensure.
I had the pleasure of being able to be supervised by both of our wonderful supervisors at A New Hope at different times during my clinical journey towards independent licensure. Lisa McVann helped me to determine the type of therapist I wanted to become while I was still acquiring my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She helped me to build the confidence to feel capable to meet the individual needs of every client and to trust my clinical judgment. Jesscia Cauthorne became my supervisor during my first two years in private practice as I worked towards independent licensure. She helped me to learn how to support the needs of clients while growing and maintaining my personal and professional boundaries.
I can honestly say I’m not sure where I would be without the kind, compassionate, and authentic guidance I received from the three women who helped lay the foundation for the work that I am proud to do today.”
