Building Blocks of Play Supervision 

Supervision in play therapy is more than oversight—it’s a creative and transformative process that shapes the next generation of play therapists. In this engaging and interactive morning session, we will explore the fundamental elements of play therapy supervision, including the roles of a supervisor, structuring supervision effectively, and essential skills to foster growth and ethical practice. 

Through playful activities, reflective exercises, and interactive discussions, participants will gain practical tools to navigate the supervision process with confidence. Whether you’re stepping into the role of a supervisor for the first time or refining your approach, this session will provide a solid foundation while embracing the spirit of play.

 Afternoon Session:
Ethical Reflections in Play Therapy Supervision: Navigating the Gray Areas  

Supervision in play therapy requires more than clinical expertise it demands a deep commitment to ethical decision-making, cultural responsiveness, and professional integrity. This will be an interactive and thought-provoking training session designed for play therapy supervisors and mental health professionals who provide clinical guidance to play therapists.

 

This presentation will explore complex ethical dilemmas that arise in supervision, including boundary-setting, dual relationships, cultural considerations, and navigating power dynamics. Participants will strengthen their ability to supervise with confidence and integrity. Join us as we engage in meaningful dialogue, enhance our ethical decision-making skills, and refine our approach to supporting play therapists in ethical and effective ways.  

Training Objectives​​​
  • Examine ethical principles in play therapy supervision in accordance with the APT Best Practices for Play Therapy Supervision and relevant professional ethical codes. 

  • Identify and navigate ethical dilemmas in play therapy supervision, including confidentiality, informed consent, dual relationships, and the limits of supervisory responsibility, to ensure adherence to APT guidelines. 

  • Evaluate cultural considerations and power dynamics in play therapy supervision, applying an ethical lens to support diverse supervisees and promote culturally responsive supervision. 

  • Develop ethical supervision strategies in play therapy that align with APT requirements for Registered Play Therapist-Supervisors (RPT-S), fostering competent and ethical clinical practice among supervisees.

Liliana Baylon

 

Liliana Baylon has a master’s degree in Counseling & Marriage, Family, & Child Therapy as well as an MBA from University of Phoenix in Colorado. Since entering the therapy field, Liliana has developed an interest and niche in treating children and families who have experienced trauma, abuse, and multicultural issues from an attachment lens. To better treat these populations, Liliana has received training in different modalities, some of which she is a trained educator.

 

Liliana is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, EMDRIA Approved Consultant, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, Synergetic Play Therapy Consultant, EFT Supervisor, EMDR Certified, TheraPlay Level 1, Independent Facilitator of the Becoming a Love and Logic Parent Curriculum, Bring Baby Home Gottman Trained Educator, Gottman Seven Principles Program Educator, Completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.Liliana’s brings a unique cultural lens into her therapy and supervision sessions. Liliana is passionate about working with fellow mental health professionals to embrace curiosity, inspiration, and discover meaning to rise to their full potential from attachment and cultural lenses. Liliana offers workshops in the field of Mental Health and Cultural Opportunity for Psychotherapist, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Teachers and Consultations for Agencies, Schools, Private Practices, Mental Health Centers, & Non-Profits in English, and Spanish.

Maria Laquerre-Diego

 

A self-described geek, Maria Laquerre-Diego, LMFT, RPT-S is a CEO and Owner who is committed to increasing access to mental health services and breaking down the stigma surrounding therapy services. As a therapist turned CEO, Maria has developed a unique perspective when it comes to mental health and the barriers surrounding mental health treatment. Influenced by her time at New Mexico State University in the Family and Consumer Science department, and University of New Hampshire’s Marriage and Family Therapy department, Maria has turned her dedication to giving back and supporting future generations of therapists.

 

In addition to supporting mental health providers, Maria takes an active role in addressing the continued stigma of mental health services through the use of pop culture – everything from movies and television shows to superheroes and Disney characters. Maria has spoken about mental health at several local events, has served as an officer on professional boards and has provided training to clinicians all over the country.
