The Power of Play: Strengthening Attachment and Co-Regulation

The Power of Play: Strengthening Attachment and Co-Regulation
This 6-hour experiential workshop will provide play therapists with an understanding of Theraplay, integrating attachment theory, Polyvagal Theory, and play therapy principles to support children. Theraplay is a playful, interactive intervention that strengthens parent-child bonding, security, and delight through face-to-face engagement, sensory experiences, and reciprocal activities. Participants will explore the four dimensions of Theraplay (Structure, Engagement, Nurture, and Challenge) and learn how each contributes to felt safety, co-regulation, and secure attachment in therapeutic work.
The workshop will include at least eight Theraplay-based interventions for engaging children and caregivers in healing play. A special focus will be placed on Polyvagal Theory, helping participants recognize nervous system states and understand how Theraplay foster’s regulation and resilience. Additionally, attendees will be introduced to the Marschak Interaction Method (MIM) assessment.
By the end of this training, therapists will have the knowledge to understand Theraplay principles for children struggling with emotional regulation, attachment disruptions, and behavioral challenges.
This interactive training will include lecture, case discussions, video examples, and experiential activities, ensuring therapists leave with both conceptual knowledge and practical skills to enhance their play therapy practice.
